INTRO From the Vunga Cooperative in Nyabihu District, Rwanda — an all-women-owned and led operation producing a sticky-sweet natural Red Bourbon. Black cherry and raspberry lead, with a strawberry sweetness running throughout. In the cup: black cherry, raspberry, and strawberry.
THE PRODUCER Vunga Coffee Washing Station is part of the Muraho Trading Company network, notably an all-women-owned and led cooperative managed by prominent community leader Daphrose Uwimana. The station consists of roughly 260 local smallholder members and sources its natural water from the nearby Virunga National Park.
THE PROCESS This lot is a Natural — cherries are dried whole, allowing the fruit to impart its character directly into the bean. This approach is what builds the sticky sweetness and layered black cherry, raspberry, and strawberry character that define this cup.
THE CUP Sticky and sweet — black cherry depth up front, with raspberry and strawberry sweetness running throughout. A vivid, fruit-forward expression from one of Rwanda's standout women-led cooperatives.
