INTRO — A Rare Colombian Natural from TANAT

TANAT is delighted to present Colombia — CGLE Las Margaritas [Sudan Rume Natural], a truly expressive and exotic single-origin coffee showcasing one of the rarest Arabica varietals cultivated today. Sourced from the Las Margaritas farm — part of the historic Café Granja La Esperanza estate in Valle del Cauca — this lot highlights the Sudan Rume variety with vibrant aromatics and layered sweetness developed through a meticulously controlled natural process.

Sudan Rume is a storied and uncommon varietal with deep genetic roots in coffee’s early history. Its combination of bright fruit, floral nuance, and spice complexity makes this an intriguing and memorable cup.

THE PRODUCER — Café Granja La Esperanza at Las Margaritas

Café Granja La Esperanza is a renowned Colombian coffee producer with a legacy of experimentation and excellence. At their Las Margaritas farm, located in the foothills of the Valle del Cauca, the team cultivates rare varietals like Sudan Rume alongside more familiar lines — all with a focus on precision, terroir expression, and thoughtful processing.

Sudan Rume itself is a naturally occurring Arabica that historically predates many modern cultivars. Low-yielding and delicate to grow, it’s prized for its distinct aromatics and fruit-driven complexity — making lots like this both rare and captivating.

THE PROCESS — Traditional Natural with Care

This coffee is processed as a natural, meaning cherries are dried whole to emphasize fruit influence and sweetness:

🍒 Hand-Picked Ripe Cherries — Only the best red cherries are accepted.
☀️ Natural Drying — Whole cherries are dried slowly, concentrating sugars and aromatics.
🔄 Even Development — Careful management ensures balanced drying and expressive fruit notes.

This method amplifies the varietal’s inherent fruit complexity while retaining clarity and freshness in the cup.

THE CUP — Spicy, Exotic & Juicy

In the cup, CGLE Las Margaritas Sudan Rume Natural is rich, vibrant, and multi-layered — a celebration of both rare genetics and refined processing.

Flavour Notes

🍃 Cardamom — bright spice with aromatic warmth
🍋 Citron — lively citrus brightness with clean acidity
🥭 Passion Fruit — tropical sweetness and juicy depth
🌿 Eucalyptus — a faint, fresh herbal lift on the finish

The acidity is medium, and the body is juicy and engaging — a profile that lingers with elegance and intrigue. This is a coffee that rewards mindful brewing and highlights what exceptional Colombian naturals can achieve.

What is the roast recency?

We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 8-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
