ABOUT THIS COFFEE

Little Pearls is a beautiful expression of collaboration and community — a combination lot made up of coffees from smallholder producers in Antioquia, Colombia. These small lots, though often too small to export individually, are exceptionally high in quality. By combining them, producers can bring their coffee to market while preserving its distinct character and vibrant flavor profile.

This project allows small farmers to receive fair compensation for their meticulous work while creating a coffee that rivals (and often surpasses) larger, single-producer lots.

PROCESSING DETAILS

Each contributing farmer carefully manipulates different fermentation variables — from temperature, cleanliness, and batch size to fermentation duration and drying method — to enhance the coffee’s flavor complexity. Fermentation typically lasts 24–48 hours, occasionally extending up to 72 hours, followed by 7–14 days of slow drying on raised beds.

These subtle differences between producers contribute to the layered, fruit-forward complexity that defines this lot.

THE CUP

In the cup, we taste juicy red fruits, tart berries, and a playful hint of green Jolly Rancher candy. The coffee shines with a bright malic acidity, a light body, and a sparkling, clean finish.

It’s vibrant, sweet, and refreshingly crisp — a joyful reminder that Colombia’s smallholder producers continue to craft some of the most expressive and dynamic coffees in the world.

What is the roast recency?

September doesn't generally advertise a roast preference to Filter or Espresso, however, this is an exception and this particular bag is best enjoyed as espresso!

We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 8-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
