Intro:

September is delighted to feature Bekele Yutute Lactic Natural JARC 74158, a vibrant and tropical Ethiopian coffee that showcases both fruit sweetness and silky texture brought out by an experimental lactic‑enhanced natural process. This standout filter lot offers juicy citrus brightness, creamy sweetness, and a lingering sweet finish — a compelling and memorable expression from one of Sidama’s most exciting producers.

The Producer:

Bekele Yutute is an acclaimed producer from Bensa, Sidama, earning 4th place in the 2024 Ethiopian Cup of Excellence competition with his coffee — a testament to his skill and care on the farm. Growing up immersed in coffee culture, Bekele has focused on quality cultivation and processing, eventually taking control of production and export with his own license. His work continues to push boundaries and elevate the profile of Ethiopian specialty coffee.

The Process:

This lot is crafted using a lactic natural process, a type of anaerobic fermentation where oxygen is excluded during early cherry fermentation. After hand‑sorting, ripe cherries are sealed in tanks, encouraging the development of higher concentrations of lactic acid — producing coffees with silky body, tropical sweetness, and nuanced complexity. The extended interaction between ferment and fruit creates a uniquely layered coffee that bridges the intensity of naturals with the sweetness of anaerobic styles.

The Cup:

In the cup, Bekele Yutute Lactic Natural is bright, sweet, and creamy. The first impression is juicy orange 🍊, followed by notes of coconut milk 🥥 that add a lush textural richness. A finish of sweet honey 🍯 lingers beautifully, tying together the profile with a soft, comforting sweetness. The overall experience is smooth, inviting, and deeply satisfying — perfect for filter brewing.

Overall:

September’s Bekele Yutute Lactic Natural JARC 74158 is a distinctive and joyful expression of Ethiopian coffee — where experimental processing meets traditional quality. With its vibrant fruit character, creamy sweetness, and silky texture, this lot makes for a memorable filter coffee experience that celebrates both terroir and fermentation creativity.

What is the roast recency?

September doesn't generally advertise a roast preference to Filter or Espresso, however, this is an exception and this particular bag is best enjoyed as espresso!

We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 8-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
