Intro:

Prodigal is excited to present Las Perlitas Lot 7, the latest iteration of their Little Pearls project — a collaborative endeavour that brings together high‑quality microlots from smallholder producers across Huila that would otherwise be too small to export on their own. This 7th lot is especially process‑forward, combining multiple varietals into a complex and exciting washed coffee that bursts with bright fruit and floral expression.

The Producer:

The Las Perlitas project is orchestrated by collaborators like Stephen of The Coffee Quest, who identify and source outstanding micro‑lots — often just a few bags at a time — from smallholder farms throughout Colombia’s coffee regions. By uniting these little pearls into a single export‑sized lot, Prodigal highlights the collective quality and diversity of these growers’ work, rather than focusing on large single estates.

The Process:

This lot is washed processed, meaning only the fruit skin and mucilage are removed before clean fermentation and drying, preserving brightness and clarity. By blending microlots from different farms and varietals (including Pink Bourbon, Caturra, Geisha, and a hint of Aruzi), the overall profile gains layered complexity and balance — a hallmark of what makes Las Perlitas lots so compelling despite their humble origins.

The Cup:

In the cup, Las Perlitas Lot 7 is vibrant and expressive. Expect lively orange 🍊 brightness up front, followed by a rich berry 🍓 sweetness that carries through the mid‑palate. Subtle floral 🌼 aromatics float around the edges, adding lift and nuance to the finish. Together these qualities make it a refreshing and layered filter coffee that’s both bright and deeply satisfying.

Overall:

Prodigal’s Las Perlitas Lot 7 is a celebration of collaboration, diversity, and smallholder excellence — a coffee that’s been more than the sum of its parts. Its fruit‑forward tang, floral complexity, and balanced clarity make it a memorable addition to any filter rotation, and a great example of how careful sourcing and blending can elevate small‑scale lots into something special.

What is the roast recency?

We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 6-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12 - should we have any left in stock!). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.

What does 'Filter' or 'Espresso' Roast mean?

Typically filter is roasted lighter than espresso, though this is not always the case. Several factors play into what brands a Prodigal coffee as 'filter' or 'espresso', which includes the roast profile - i.e. how the beans are roasted, not just how developed a roast it is. It doesn't preclude you from using the beans for espresso though!
