Intro:
Mirra is thrilled to share Costa Rica Jose & Roger Urena, an extraordinary washed Geisha from Finca Santa Teresa in the celebrated Tarrazú region. This coffee represents a collaboration with Roger — a producer Mirra has long admired — and his son Jose, bringing together generations of expertise. The cup delivers an unparalleled harmony of delicate florals, sweet fruit, and refined clarity, showcasing both the varietal’s potential and the pristine terroir of Costa Rica’s high‑altitude coffee lands.
The Producer:
This lot comes from Finca Santa Teresa, owned and operated by Roger Urena and his son Jose Urena. Roger began working in coffee as a boy alongside his parents and grandparents, and in 2015 he purchased Finca Santa Teresa to begin processing and milling his own coffee — allowing him to express quality and terroir directly in the final cup. The farm sits at approximately 2,050 m above sea level, surrounded by protected forest that ensures ecological sustainability and ideal growing conditions. In addition to Geisha, the Urenas cultivate a diverse “coffee variety garden” including Sudan Rume, SL28, Ethiopian landrace, Pacamara, Villalobos, Bourbon, Mejorada, and Catuai — all testament to their deep commitment to coffee excellence.
The Process:
This lot is washed processed, a method that brings clarity, sweetness, and clean expression to the forefront of the cup. The cherries are harvested at optimal ripeness and quickly delivered to the micromill for pulping, fermentation, and washing, before drying under careful conditions that preserve fragrance and balance. Mirra’s light roast further highlights the nuanced profile of this Geisha — accentuating aromatics and purity without overshadowing origin character.
The Cup:
In the cup, Costa Rica Jose & Roger Urena offers a refined and elegant experience. Bright white peach 🍑 unfolds with soft sweetness, followed by hints of tropical guava 🥭 that lend a gentle exotic richness. The aroma carries a lilac floral 🌺 perfume that is both delicate and expressive, providing an aromatic lift typical of high‑quality Geisha. The overall profile is clean, balanced, and sophisticated — ideal for filter brewing methods that allow every note to shine.
Overall:
Mirra’s Costa Rica Jose & Roger Urena is a standout expression of what careful farming, high‑altitude terroir, and expert processing can achieve with one of coffee’s most celebrated varieties. With its nuanced floral aromatics, bright yet gentle fruit character, and exceptional clarity, this Geisha exemplifies both varietal elegance and the unique qualities of Costa Rica’s Tarrazú region. Whether you’re exploring Geisha for the first time or adding another exceptional lot to your coffee rotation, this offering delivers a deeply rewarding specialty coffee experience.
What is the roast recency?
Mirra doesn't advertise a roast preference to Filter or Espresso. That being said, Mirra typically roast nordic-style light, meaning Mirra is best for bright and acidic filter with floral aroma and modern espresso.
We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 8-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
