INTRO — Four Generations of Panamanian Geisha Excellence

When Swedish immigrant Carl Axel Janson founded this estate in 1941, he couldn't have imagined that his family would become one of Panama's most respected names in Geisha production. Since 1989, the Janson family has been cultivating this legendary varietal in the Talamanca Mountains, perfecting their craft over decades.

Lot 975 comes from Los Alpes, the family's high-altitude farm bordering La Amistad International Park. This Green Tip Geisha represents everything the Janson family has learnt about producing world-class coffee: impeccable farm management, sustainable practices, and a processing precision that consistently earns them Best of Panama recognition.

THE PRODUCER — The Janson Family & Los Alpes

The Janson family operates two exceptional estates in Panama's coffee heartland: Los Alpes (1,600–1,700 metres) and Hacienda Las Lagunas (1,350–1,400 metres). Across 100 hectares, they cultivate Geisha, Caturra, Catuai, and Pacamara using farming practices that prioritise both quality and environmental stewardship.

What sets the Jansons apart is their commitment to sustainability without compromise. Their operations run on solar energy, employ zero chemicals, and utilise closed-loop waste systems. Their dedicated processing mill, established in 1993, allows for complete control over post-harvest handling—a crucial factor in producing consistently exceptional coffee.

Their dedication to quality has earned them numerous accolades, including third place for Natural Geisha and fifth for Washed Geisha at the 2023 Best of Panama competition. Through active reforestation and ecosystem preservation, they've proven that premium coffee production and environmental stewardship can exist in perfect harmony.

THE PROCESS — Classic Washing, Perfectly Executed

This lot is processed using the traditional washed method—no experimental fermentations, no shortcuts, just decades of experience applied to every step. Sometimes, the classics are classic for a reason:

·       🍒 Peak Ripeness Selection — Only the ripest cherries are harvested from high-altitude plots

·       💧 Clean Water Washing — Cherries are depulped and washed using pristine mountain water

·       🌊 Fermentation Control — Precise fermentation timing brings out varietal character without masking it

·       ☀️ Careful Drying — Slow drying on raised beds allows sugars to concentrate naturally

·       👐 Hand Sorting — Multiple quality checks ensure only the finest beans progress

THE CUP — Classic Geisha Elegance from Panama's Finest

This is what Panamanian Geisha is famous for—ethereal florals, pristine clarity, and a delicate complexity that unfolds with each sip. From the first moment, you're enveloped in jasmine aromatics that give way to bright citrus and honeyed sweetness.

Flavour Notes

·       🌸 Jasmine — perfumed, delicate, intoxicating floral lift

·       🍊 Mandarin Zest — bright, clean, sparkling citrus acidity

·       🍯 Acacia Honey — silky, sweet, refined elegance

What is the roast recency?

We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 8-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
