About This Coffee and Producer
Altieri Specialty Coffee was founded by Eugene Altieri, an Italian-New Yorker who purchased two farms in Boquete, Panama, sixteen years ago—unknowingly choosing one of the world’s most ideal regions for growing exceptional coffee. Seven years ago, Eugene’s children joined the business, expanding the brand’s reach and refining its processing techniques to achieve world-class quality. Today, the Altieri Family, including Eugene’s wife Lelia and eleven grandchildren, all play a role in carrying forward the family’s dedication to excellence.
The Ale lot grows at 1,820 MASL on the Mimas Estate, a lush and steep terrain bordering a 25-hectare forest reserve at the base of Barú Volcano. This microclimate provides fertile volcanic soil and consistent shade, ideal for the slow ripening of Gesha cherries.
After harvest on April 12, 2025, the cherries were floated to remove low-density fruit before being sealed in GrainPro bags and submerged in cold river water for five days—a signature River Flow Fermentation process that brings out a deep, clean sweetness. The coffee was then dried for 30 days at a controlled temperature of 18°C and 50% humidity, ensuring slow, even drying and a velvety texture in the cup. Finally, the lot was rested in a climate-controlled warehouse to stabilise and mature its flavours.
Why We Selected This Coffee
This is our first collaboration with the Altieri Family, one of Boquete’s most respected producers. Their precision, care, and creativity have earned them recognition in the Best of Panama competition, where they consistently rank among the top.
This limited River Flow Fermentation Gesha is one of their most unique experiments—fermented as whole cherry using the natural current of a river that runs through their estate. The result is an extraordinary coffee that radiates elegance and balance.
In the cup, you’ll find creamy strawberry sweetness, a soft, velvety texture, and a tropical brightness that evokes ripe passionfruit. As it cools, delicate notes of cherry blossom unfold, lingering gracefully on the finish.
A rare and stunning lot, representing the innovation, heritage, and natural beauty of Boquete.
