INTRO — A Tiny Lot With Big Flavor
Some coffees barely make it out of the cupping table before they’re spoken for—this is one of them.
During a small tasting session, Scott tasted this Gesha, paused, and immediately reserved the entire limited quantity. Finca El Altillo Gesha is vibrant, juicy, and bursting with ripe orange-toned stone fruit. Expect it to be available for only a couple of roasts—this is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it release.
THE PRODUCER — Eymar Rosero of El Altillo
Eymar Rosero runs Finca El Altillo with a rare blend of technical expertise and generational intuition. Born into a coffee-growing family and trained in environmental management, Eymar brings a thoughtful, scientific approach to post-harvest processing.
While he often experiments with progressive fermentation styles, this Gesha showcases restraint: a pure, classic washed process that highlights terroir and varietal clarity rather than fermentation-driven intensity.
THE PROCESS — Clean, Classic, and Transparent
This lot is processed with a focus on precision and cleanliness:
-
🌱 Hand-picked at peak ripeness
-
⚙️ Depulped and traditionally washed
-
🌤️ Dried on raised beds for 20–25 days
The extended, slow drying builds sweetness and structure without adding funk or over-processing. The result is a crystalline expression of Gesha grown in Nariño’s high elevations.
THE CUP — Ripe Stone Fruit + Citrus Electricity
This Gesha is all about bright, juicy, orange-spectrum fruit supported by delicate florals and sweet acidity.

What is the roast recency?
We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 6-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12 - should we have any left in stock!). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
What does 'Filter' or 'Espresso' Roast mean?
Typically filter is roasted lighter than espresso, though this is not always the case. Several factors play into what brands a Prodigal coffee as 'filter' or 'espresso', which includes the roast profile - i.e. how the beans are roasted, not just how developed a roast it is. It doesn't preclude you from using the beans for espresso though!
