INTRO
A clean, fruit-forward washed SL-9 from Valentin Orosco in Cusco. Rhubarb and currant jam lead, with melon softening the finish — bright and structured, with the kind of clarity that comes from careful harvesting and unhurried drying.
THE PRODUCER
Valentin grows his coffee among shade trees on his farm in Cusco, the natural canopy providing habitat for native birds and a slower, more even ripening environment for the cherries. He selectively hand harvests only ripe fruit — a level of care that shows clearly in the cup.
THE PROCESS
Ripe cherries were selectively hand harvested and immediately pulped. After a brief fermentation, the coffee was fully washed to remove any remaining mucilage, then dried on raised beds for 15–20 days.
THE CUP
A Peruvian washed that punches well above its weight — vivid, precise, and quietly complex. SL-9 is a rare find outside East Africa, and Valentin's lot makes a strong case for why it deserves more attention.
