From Mulugeta Muntasha's farm in Arbegona, high in the Sidama zone of southern Ethiopia — a washed Kurume of exceptional elegance, clarity, and sweetness. Roasted for filter, this lot reveals the full aromatic expression of 74-158 at altitude: refined, fragrant, and beautifully defined from first sip to last. In the cup: stone fruit, citrus blossom, and bergamot.
THE PRODUCER
Mulugeta Muntasha farms at exceptional altitude in Arbegona, Sidama — with plots reaching 2,300 MASL, among the highest in Ethiopia. His consistent focus on quality has earned significant recognition, including 3rd place at the Cup of Excellence 2024 and multiple top rankings in 2022, establishing him as one of Ethiopia's most compelling producers. Alongside his own farm production, Mulugeta works with 320 outgrower farmers, with an ongoing commitment to improving lot separation to enable more precise quality-based payments throughout the supply chain.
The 74-158 Kurume varietal was developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Centre and selected for its quality potential at high altitude and its ability to express the floral and fruit character for which Sidama coffees are so celebrated. At 2,100–2,250 MASL in Arbegona, the variety's inherent elegance and aromatic complexity reach their fullest expression in the cup.
THE PROCESS
The Washed process at Mulugeta Muntasha's farm involves:
🍒 Hand-picking — Cherries selectively harvested at peak ripeness 🔍 Sorting — Defective and underripe cherries removed before processing 🔧 Pulping — Outer skin and fruit flesh removed from the beans 🧪 Fermentation — Beans fermented in water to break down remaining mucilage 💧 Washing — Thoroughly washed to remove all fermentation residue ☀️ Drying — Dried to optimal moisture content on raised beds
The meticulous washing and fermentation management is the defining step — stripping back the processing to allow the intrinsic character of the Kurume varietal and Arbegona's extraordinary high-altitude terroir to express themselves with full clarity, producing the elegant, clean, and sweet profile that defines this lot.
THE CUP
A refined and beautifully elegant washed Ethiopian from one of Sidama's most awarded producers — delicate stone fruit sweetness, a fragrant citrus blossom florality, and a long bergamot finish that speaks of both the extraordinary altitude and the precision behind every step of production. A filter roast that rewards a slow, attentive brew.
