INTRO
Gesha Village sits in the renowned coffee-growing region of Bench Maji, near the legendary Gesha Forest — the birthplace of the Gesha variety. Gesha 1931 is prized for its exceptional quality and rarity, ranking just below auction lots. Magnolia aromatics lead, with peach and sweet orange sweetness. In the cup: magnolia, peach, and sweet orange.
THE PRODUCER
Gesha Village's high elevations, abundant rainfall, and mild climate provide ideal conditions for producing exceptional coffee. The Oma block is one of several distinct plots across the farm growing the historic Gesha 1931 variety.
THE PROCESS
Freshly harvested cherries were carefully sorted and floated before drying on African raised beds. Cherries were initially spread in thin layers, then thickened with more frequent turning. Moisture levels were monitored from the 15th day, with drying completed at 11% moisture after approximately 30 days. The coffee then rested for at least two months before hulling, allowing the flavours to fully develop.
The extended two-month post-drying rest is the defining step — it's what allows the floral and stone fruit complexity to fully develop, building the layered magnolia, peach, and sweet orange character that define this cup.
THE CUP
Floral and sweet — magnolia aromatics lead, with peach and sweet orange sweetness rounding out a rare, precisely dried expression of Gesha 1931.
