Kenya Nyeri Uklili AA is a celebration of everything that has made Kenyan coffee legendary. Bright, structured, and intensely juicy, this lot delivers a classic Nyeri profile with precision and clarity. It’s a coffee that immediately announces its origin—lively acidity, layered fruit, and an unmistakable sense of energy in the cup.
The ProducerThis coffee is produced by a Farmer’s Cooperative Society in Nyeri, a region globally revered for its exceptional coffee quality. Nyeri’s high elevations, nutrient-rich volcanic soils, and clearly defined wet and dry seasons create an ideal environment for cultivating expressive coffees. Thousands of smallholder farmers contribute cherries, combining generations of local knowledge with meticulous harvesting practices to consistently produce standout lots like this one.
The name Uklili is rooted in Kiswahili, derived from “nyeusi malkia,” meaning “black queen.” Rather than referencing the musical instrument, the name symbolizes Kenya’s regal status in the specialty coffee world—particularly its iconic blackcurrant-driven flavor profiles.
The ProcessThis lot is fully washed, a method that highlights clarity and brightness. Ripe cherries are carefully sorted, depulped, and fermented before being thoroughly washed and dried. This process emphasizes the intrinsic qualities of the SL28 and SL34 varieties, preserving their vibrant acidity and clean, fruit-forward character.
In the CupThe cup is immediately bright and juicy, led by crisp citrus acidity that feels fresh and energetic. Layers of red plum and red currant bring depth and complexity, while a gentle sugarcane sweetness rounds out the profile. The finish is clean, lively, and refreshing.
