Ethiopia — Banko Taratu Wash Station 74110 & 74112 (Washed)

Tastes Like — 🍑 Peach Ring Gummies • 🌸 White Jasmine • 🫐 Blueberry Jam

DETAILS

  • Wash Station: Banko Taratu
  • Region: Gedeb, Gedeo, Ethiopia
  • Varietal: 74110 & 74112
  • Process: Washed
  • Elevation: 2,300 masl (average)

INTRO Mirra's first African restock of the year, and a strong way to kick it off — a delightful washed lot from the Banko Taratu wash station in Gedeb, Gedeo. Sweet peach ring gummies come through first, followed by aromatic white jasmine and a round, mellow blueberry jam. In the cup: peach ring gummies, white jasmine, and blueberry jam.

THE PRODUCER The Banko Taratu wash station sits in the Gedeb township of Gedeo, southern Ethiopia — a region home to some of the country's highest-altitude coffee farms, with this lot sourced from farms averaging 2,300 masl. Over 500 smallholder producers contribute cherry to the station, limited to two varieties: 74110 and 74112.

Both are Ethiopian landrace varieties — native to Ethiopia, where the coffee plant originated, and shaped by an unusually long history of organic evolution and differentiation. This gives Ethiopian coffee far greater genetic biodiversity than any other producing country, driving the complexity and sweetness these coffees are known for. Much of that diversity remains unnamed and under-researched — it's often said that nearly every town across Ethiopia's coffee-growing regions has its own distinct variety.

THE PROCESS This lot is Washed, a method built around careful de-pulping, fermentation, and washing before drying — letting 74110 and 74112's naturally sweet, floral character come through with clarity, building the peach ring gummy, jasmine, and blueberry jam notes that define this cup.

THE CUP Sweet and layered — peach ring gummy sweetness up front, aromatic white jasmine through the middle, and a round, mellow blueberry jam finish. A strong opening to Mirra's African lineup this year.

About this variety

Several varieties make up this lot. That can create a layered cup, but their individual flavours cannot be separated honestly after the coffee is combined.

Why this one is different
  • Ethiopia
  • Gedeb
  • 2300 masl
  • Washed

These varieties were grown or combined in Ethiopia. The producer’s lot details and tasting notes are the best guide to how they work together.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

The varieties are shown exactly as supplied for this coffee. We do not invent one combined genetic or flavour profile for the group.
