Habtamu Fekadu – Ethiopia | Washed Heirloom Single-Origin

Bright, Clean, and Elegantly Floral – A Classic Washed Ethiopian from the Highlands of Sidama

This exceptional single-origin coffee is produced by Habtamu Fekadu Aga, a third-generation coffee grower and the founder of Kuri Mountain Coffee. Grown in the highlands of Sidama at elevations between 2,000–2,300 meters above sea level, this washed Ethiopian heirloom varietal is a vibrant representation of the region’s celebrated coffee heritage.

Tasting Notes

Expect a clean, structured cup with lively citrus acidity and refined sweetness. Peach and ripe stone fruits lead the flavour profile, supported by delicate florals reminiscent of jasmine or Earl Grey. A refreshing, tea-like body and sparkling finish make this coffee both elegant and complex—perfect for filter or light espresso brewing.

Origin & Producer

Habtamu Fekadu’s Kuri Mountain Coffee estate began in 2015, rooted in a legacy of smallholder farming in the Kuri kebele of Sidama. Today, the estate manages a 105-hectare farm while also collaborating with more than 140 outgrowers across an additional 837 hectares, carefully selecting and processing cherries to maintain exceptional quality.

Processing

This lot is fully washed using meticulous post-harvest techniques. Cherries are selectively hand-picked, depulped, and fermented in water tanks for 48–72 hours. After washing, the coffee undergoes a second short fermentation before drying on raised beds for 10–12 days under close monitoring. This controlled, clean process results in a cup that is vivid, nuanced, and unmistakably Ethiopian.

Sustainable and Transparent

September Coffee partners with producers like Habtamu Fekadu who share their commitment to quality, traceability, and ethical sourcing. The result is a coffee that not only tastes exceptional but also supports sustainable practices at origin.

Flavour Notes: Plum, Peach, White Florals

What is the roast recency?

September doesn't generally advertise a roast preference to Filter or Espresso, however, this is an exception and this particular bag is best enjoyed as espresso!

We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 8-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
