INTRO
The Cusco region's SL09 is quite special — locals, drawing inspiration from Inca civilisation, named it Inca Geisha for its delicate cupping performance and rich floral aromas, remarkably close to Geisha itself. Full-bodied sweet orange and yellow peach lead, with hints of gardenia. In the cup: sweet orange, yellow peach, and gardenia.
THE PRODUCER
San Sebastian Estate was founded in 2014 by Julio, in response to the severe impact of coffee leaf rust on the local industry at the time. To address disease and climate challenges, Julio chose to cultivate disease-resistant varieties at higher altitudes, adhering to a quality-centric philosophy that gradually built the estate's outstanding reputation. Named after Julio's eldest son, San Sebastian Estate symbolises heritage and hope, sitting at the foot of the snow-capped Choquesafra Mountains at roughly 2,250 meters, amid towering cedar forests and rich wild bird life.
According to genetic testing by the World Coffee Research Center (WCR), SL09's genetic characteristics closely resemble the SL09 developed in the 1930s by Scott Laboratories in Kenya, showing traces of Bourbon strains from natural variation and hybridisation over generations.
THE PROCESS
This lot is Washed, a method that removes the fruit before fermentation and drying — allowing SL09's naturally delicate, floral character to come through with clarity, building the sweet orange and yellow peach sweetness that define this cup.
THE CUP
Full-bodied and fruity — sweet orange and yellow peach lead the cup, with subtle gardenia hints rounding out the finish. A consistently high-quality expression from one of Peru's most decorated new estates.
