INTRO

Blueberry Beats comes from the Baturo washing station in the Bura area of Ethiopia's Sidama region. It's grown at an unusually high 2360–2440 metres above sea level, and the lot is made up of heirloom varieties—the mix of local landraces long grown across this part of southern Ethiopia rather than a single named cultivar.

 

THE PRODUCER

The Bura Baturo Washing Station sits in the Bura area of Sidama, one of Ethiopia's most celebrated coffee-growing regions. Farmers here cultivate heirloom coffee at an unusually high elevation of 2360–2440 metres, well above the altitude typical of most Sidama lots, contributing to the intensity and complexity found in the cup.

THE PROCESS

The Anaerobic Natural process at Bura Baturo involves:

• 🍒 Cherry Selection — Whole ripe cherries selected for processing
• 🔒 Sealed Tank Fermentation — Whole cherries sealed in tanks for a period of anaerobic fermentation
• ☀️ Natural Drying — Cherries moved out to dry after fermentation, rather than going straight onto raised beds after picking

This sealed anaerobic fermentation followed by natural drying creates the distinctly fruity, sweetness-forward character that defines this lot.

 

THE CUP

In the cup it's distinctly fruity—blueberry and strawberry jam sit alongside vanilla and a broader ripe, almost stewed-fruit character. A lively, sweetness-forward filter coffee shaped by the unusually high altitude and sealed anaerobic fermentation at Bura Baturo.
