This release marks September's second collaboration with Mullugeta Muntasha, and the first in honour of his son, Dege, who oversees much of the farming. A 2022 Cup of Excellence winner, Mullugeta consistently produces coffees with clarity, sweetness, and bright acidity, making this lot a standout in both single-origin and experimental brewing.

TASTES LIKE — Purple Grapes 🍇 • Lime 🍋 • Citrus Zest 🍊

In the cup, expect a mouthwatering acidity reminiscent of grapes and limes, a long, sweet finish, and a silky body. The profile is vibrant yet approachable, with a layered complexity that rewards both filter and espresso preparations.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Dege Mullugeta, working alongside his father Mullugeta Muntasha, manages the Dawencho washing station and their farm in Arbegona. Mullugeta returned to Bursa in 2021, and quickly earned multiple accolades in the Cup of Excellence, including several top 10 placements in 2022. The family’s dedication to quality and careful processing ensures each coffee reflects both terroir and meticulous craftsmanship.

THE PROCESS

This lot is processed using anaerobic fermentation, where coffee cherries are fermented in sealed tanks without oxygen. This method intensifies the fruit-forward sweetness, enhances body, and amplifies bright citric notes. After fermentation, beans are dried slowly at high altitude, producing a coffee that is clean, juicy, and expressive—a true reflection of Sidama’s unique terroir.

What is the roast recency?

September doesn't generally advertise a roast preference to Filter or Espresso, however, this is an exception and this particular bag is best enjoyed as espresso!

We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 8-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
