Thiswashed SL28 from Finca Hartmann is a beautiful example of how a classic Kenyan variety can shine when grown in Panama’s unique terroir. Clean, elegant, and expressive, Lot #49 delivers a bright, tea-like structure layered with citrus and red fruit, making it both refreshing and deeply satisfying.
The ProducerThe Hartmann Family are true pioneers of specialty coffee in Panama. Founded in 1940 by Ratibor Hartmann, Finca Hartmann is now operated by the third generation of the family and remains one of the country’s most respected names in coffee.
Located in Santa Clara, Renacimiento, the farm borders nearly 100 hectares of protected forest connected to La Amistad National Park. Coffee is grown under the shade of native rainforest trees, many of which have stood for decades. Rather than cutting trees, the Hartmanns actively replant native species and plantains, preserving biodiversity, soil health, and the natural ecosystem. For the family, coffee is not just a livelihood—it is culture, heritage, and passion.
The ProcessThis lot is washed, a method that emphasizes clarity and precision. Ripe cherries are carefully harvested, depulped, fermented, and washed before drying. The result is a cup that highlights SL28’s inherent brightness, structure, and elegant acidity without distraction.
In the CupThe cup opens with bright orange citrus, quickly followed by the lively tartness of red currant. A gentle brown sugar sweetness adds depth and balance, while a refined breakfast tea character carries through the mid-palate and finish. Clean, vibrant, and persistent, this coffee lingers beautifully, showcasing both the variety and the Hartmann family’s meticulous approach.
