ABOUT THIS COFFEE & PRODUCER

High in the hills of Bombe, Bensa, at a staggering 2,300 metres above sea level, sits Setame, the 10-hectare farm of Nguisse Nare. Planted with the 74158 variety and intercropped with taro and sweet potato, this smallholding represents Nguisse’s commitment to elevating both quality and sustainability in Ethiopian coffee.

Beyond Setame, Nguisse also manages two additional farms—one in Kokose and another in Tiburo—and works closely with around 60 neighbouring smallholders to source cherry for his natural and anaerobic lots. Together with his team, including farm manager Thomas Tosha and Industry Manager Demisse Turuma (the local term for postharvest expert), Nguisse ensures meticulous care through every stage of production.

Cherry is floated for density sorting before being dried slowly on raised beds over 20 days, a process that preserves the purity and brightness of this high-elevation terroir.

WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE

We’re thrilled to welcome back Nguisse Nare, whose coffees continue to redefine what’s possible from Ethiopia’s Bensa region. His lots have long been celebrated for their remarkable clarity, sweetness, and balance, and this year’s harvest reaffirms that legacy.

This natural process coffee stands out for its clean and structured cup, displaying both the expressive fruit character expected of naturals and the precision of Nguisse’s processing. Our light roast was designed to accentuate that vibrancy—bringing forward the lively acidity of green grape, the bright tropical tang of pineapple, and a graceful white tea finish that lingers delicately on the palate.

A coffee of elevation and finesse, Setame captures the quiet brilliance of one of Ethiopia’s most exciting producers.
