Intro
This washed Gesha from Hacienda La Esmeralda’s famed Cabaña Abajo lot is a pristine expression of Panamanian terroir and meticulous craft. Elegant, transparent, and effortlessly refined, it represents everything that has made Esmeralda one of the most iconic names in specialty coffee. This is Gesha in its purest form—clean, floral, and quietly complex.
The Producer
Hacienda La Esmeralda, operated by the Peterson family, is one of the most influential coffee estates in the world. Located in the highlands of Boquete, their farms have reshaped how the industry understands Gesha, terroir, and separation by plot and elevation. The Cañas Verdes farm is known for producing exceptionally delicate and nuanced coffees, and the Petersons’ uncompromising standards—from harvest timing to processing—continue to set benchmarks across the specialty coffee landscape.
The Process
Cabaña Abajo 5FB was harvested on February 8th, 2025, from the lower section of the Cabaña lot (“abajo” meaning below). After harvest, the cherries were depulped and fermented for 72 hours in a low-temperature environment, allowing for slow, controlled enzymatic activity. The coffee was then dried carefully on raised beds for 20 days. This extended, gentle washed process preserves clarity, aromatics, and structure, highlighting the Gesha’s natural elegance.
In the Cup
The cup opens with soft, luminous coffee blossom florals that immediately signal classic Esmeralda Gesha. As it unfolds, juicy peach sweetness comes forward, supported by a bright yet refined lemon acidity. The profile is clean and graceful, with a tea-like body and a refreshing finish.
