Description
Gara Agena is a washing station located in Hayissa Olocho, in Ethiopia’s renowned Sidama region. It is operated by Testi Specialty Coffee, a family-run company founded by Faysel A. Yonis, committed to quality-driven production and transparent, ethical sourcing.
Testi’s approach begins with location — placing washing stations only in areas with ideal altitude, climate, and soil conditions. At Gara Agena, around 450 smallholder farmers deliver their harvests during the season. In return, Testi offers premium payments for high-quality cherry, encouraging careful picking and selective harvesting.
At the station, cherries are hand-sorted and graded before being dried on raised beds under close supervision. The process emphasises precision and detail, resulting in coffees that are sweet, vibrant, and layered — a clear reflection of Sidama’s exceptional terroir and Testi’s exacting standards.
Flavour Notes: Mangosteen, Papagan Mandarin Orange, Longjing Tea

What is the roast recency?
We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 8-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
