Intro:

DAK Coffee Roasters is excited to present Tropical Storm (Espresso), a bold and expressive espresso‑focused single‑origin from Rwanda’s Nyamasheke region — direct from the Kirambo Washing Station. This naturally processed Red Bourbon lot brings together intense tropical fruit sweetness 🍍, bright rhubarb‑like acidity 🌺, and a comforting milk chocolate base 🍫, culminating in a vibrant espresso that’s both powerful and elegant.

The Producer:

Kirambo Washing Station lies in the Western Province of Rwanda, close to the shores of Lake Kivu, nestled in one of the country’s most prized coffee regions. This washing station works with a network of smallholder producers who cultivate high‑altitude Red Bourbon cherries. The combination of cool mountain climate, rich volcanic soils, and meticulous post‑harvest care contributes to the clarity and fruit intensity that define this lot.

The Process:

Tropical Storm is processed naturally, meaning beautifully ripe cherries are dried whole after harvesting — without removing the fruit skin and mucilage. This method prolongs contact between the bean and its sugars, enhancing sweetness and fruit complexity. For espresso, DAK’s roast profile highlights the structural density and expressive fruit character of the lot while maintaining clarity and vibrancy.

The Cup:

In the cup, Tropical Storm (Espresso) delivers a dynamic, fruit‑forward profile. Expect juicy tropical fruit 🍍 sweetness up front, followed by a bright, vinous rhubarb acidity 🌺 that adds lift and energy. The finish is underpinned by a rich milk chocolate 🍫 sweetness, giving depth and balance to the espresso — making each shot lively, layered, and deeply satisfying.

Overall:

DAK’s Tropical Storm (Espresso) is a standout natural Rwandan coffee that brings together tropical brightness, clean acidity, and dessert‑like sweetness in one expressive package. Its structured yet vibrant character makes it ideal for espresso enthusiasts who appreciate both bold flavour and nuanced complexity. Whether enjoyed straight or as the backbone of milk‑based drinks, this lot delivers clarity, sweetness, and personality in every cup.

We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 8-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
