Intro

Black & White have released Diego Horta’s coffee for several years, most often highlighting his natural process lots. Quietly and thoughtfully, Diego has been expanding his work into new varieties, and this Gesha marks an exciting milestone in that journey. Produced in very limited quantity, this is a beautifully classic expression of Gesha—elegant, balanced, and endlessly drinkable.

The Producer

Equation Coffee is a longtime friend of the Black & White family, best known for their pioneering work at La Palma y El Tucán. Widely regarded as leaders in anaerobic processing in Colombia, they’ve produced some of the most refined anaerobic washed coffees we’ve ever tasted. Their obsessive attention to fermentation precision and quality is matched only by their deep commitment to community.

Since 2013, Equation Coffee has partnered with more than 100 coffee-growing families through relationship-driven initiatives like Neighbors & Crops, helping producers improve both quality and livelihood. Diego Horta is one of those producers. He grows this Gesha on his farm in Santa Maria before delivering it to La Palma y El Tucán, where it’s processed with the same care and expertise that defines Equation’s reputation. It’s a partnership that truly shines in the cup.

The Process

This coffee undergoes an anaerobic washed fermentation. After harvest, the cherries are pulped and the coffee is held in a low-oxygen environment for 30 hours, allowing controlled fermentation to develop clarity and sweetness without overpowering the variety. The coffee is then fully washed and dried in a drying shed for 15 days, reaching a final moisture content of 10.7%.

Take a Sip

In the cup, this Gesha is all about elegance and balance. Soft, aromatic florals lead the way, followed by gentle peach-like stone fruit sweetness. A bright, lemonade-like citrus acidity lifts the profile, keeping it fresh and lively. Black tea notes anchor the cup, adding structure and depth, while an underlying sweetness carries through the finish. It’s a refined, classic Gesha that feels effortless to drink.

What is the roast recency?

We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 6-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12 - should we have any left in stock!). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
