Ethiopia — Hambela Buku Sayisa Station 74114 (Natural)

Tastes Like — 🍒 Bon Pari Currant Candies • 🍫 Mon Chéri Pralines • 🍷 Red Wine

DETAILS

  • Station: Hambela Buku Sayisa
  • Region: Guji, Ethiopia
  • Varietal: 74114
  • Process: Natural
  • Altitude: 2,000–2,300 masl
  • Harvest: January 2026

INTRO From the Hambela Buku Sayisa station in Guji — sweet, juicy, and distinctly fruity, built for drip brewing. Bon Pari currant candy sweetness opens the cup, followed by Mon Chéri praline richness and an elegant red wine depth. In the cup: Bon Pari currant candies, Mon Chéri pralines, and red wine.

THE PRODUCER This lot comes from the Hambela Buku Sayisa station in Guji, Ethiopia, where 74114 variety trees grow at 2,000–2,300 masl — an elevation that slows cherry ripening and encourages pronounced sweetness and fruity character. Harvested in January 2026, this is a fresh crop with a clearly defined flavour profile.

THE PROCESS This lot is a Natural — cherries are dried whole, keeping the beans in contact with the pulp for longer and promoting greater sweetness, fuller body, and more intense fruity notes.

This extended pulp contact is the defining step — it's what gives the coffee its distinctive candy-like character, complemented by the subtle wine-like note in the finish.

THE CUP Sweet and lively — Bon Pari currant candy sweetness leads, followed by Mon Chéri praline richness, and rounded out by an elegant red wine depth. Higher acidity balanced by pronounced sweetness gives this cup a clean, harmonious character.

About this origin Ethiopia is widely recognised as coffee’s birthplace and holds extraordinary genetic diversity. Washed coffees often show jasmine, citrus and tea-like clarity, while natural lots can bring ripe berries, tropical fruit and deep aromatic sweetness.

About this variety

This variety is recorded for the coffee, but we do not yet have a reviewed typical cup profile for it. The tasting notes for this specific lot are the best guide.

Why this one is different
  • Ethiopia
  • Guji
  • 2000-2300 masl
  • Natural

Natural processing often brings a rounder, fruit-led expression, which can make the same variety feel quite different from a washed lot.

Growing conditions in Guji at 2000-2300 masl also shape ripening, sweetness, acidity and aroma.

A little background

This is the variety name supplied by the producer or roaster. We preserve that identification without inventing a genetic history.
