INTRO Sweet, balanced, and very pleasantly fruity — this espresso-roasted natural from Banko Gotiti features blueberries and ripe peaches, complemented by a smooth milk chocolate finish. Medium acidity keeps the cup fresh and juicy without tasting sharp or too light, while the fruity notes gradually blend with chocolatey sweetness into a rounded, smooth profile. In the cup: blueberries, peaches, and milk chocolate.
THE PRODUCER Though administratively located in Gedeo, Banko Gotiti's microclimatic conditions and the character of its coffees place it within the broader Yirgacheffe region, specifically the Worka area. Cherries are supplied by smallholder farmers from surrounding villages, growing traditional Ethiopian varieties on small family plots alongside other crops. Trees grow across a wide altitude range of roughly 1,600 to 2,300 masl — at higher elevations, cherries ripen more slowly, resulting in higher sugar concentration and more pronounced aromatics.
THE PROCESS After hand-harvesting, ripe cherries are sorted and spread whole on raised African drying beds, where they're slowly sun-dried and turned regularly to ensure even moisture release and prevent unwanted fermentation notes. The beans remain in contact with the pulp throughout, gradually absorbing sugars and aromatic compounds from it.
This extended pulp contact during slow, regularly-turned drying is the defining step — it's what highlights the blueberry sweetness and peach juiciness, building toward a rounder body that transitions into milk chocolate on the finish.
THE CUP Clean, elegant, and sweet — blueberry sweetness and juicy peach character up front, with medium acidity keeping things fresh rather than sharp, rounding into a milk chocolate finish. A drinkable natural that retains Yirgacheffe's typical fruitiness.
