INTRO A third year working with Mullugeta Muntasha and his coffees from Sidama — jammy, sweet, and juicy, reminding us of yellow plums and red fruits. In the cup: jammy yellow plums, sweet red berries, and tangerine.
THE PRODUCER In 2021, Mullugeta returned to Bursa and began processing coffee at his own drying station, Dawencho, where he won 2nd place at the Cup of Excellence for the Dawencho farmer group coffee and 6th place under his own name. In 2022, four of the top 10 CoE winners were Mullugeta's lots — including the top winner, produced by his brother-in-law Legesse Botola, who processed his coffee at Mullugeta's washing station next to his farm.
74158 was approved for release by the Jimma Agricultural Research Centre (JARC) in 1979, originating from the Metu Bishari Selections taken from mother plants in the Metu woreda of the Illubabor zone, selected and propagated for high yield potential and resistance to coffee berry disease.
THE PROCESS This lot is a Natural, traceable to 600 outgrowers around Arbegona delivering cherry to Mullugeta's Dawencho station.
THE CUP Jammy and fruit-forward — jammy yellow plums lead, sweet red berries reminiscent of strawberries follow, and juicy tangerine citrus rounds out the finish. Light body with a jammy, sustained finish.
