Costa Rica — Café Solis & Cordero Finca Voo Geisha (Natural)

Tastes Like — 🍑 Nectarine • 🍬 Bubblegum • 🍇 Grape

DETAILS

  • Producers: Ivan Solis & Alejandra Cordero (Café Solis & Cordero)
  • Farm: Finca Voo
  • Region: Dota, Costa Rica
  • Varietal: Geisha
  • Process: Natural
  • Recognition: #1, Experimental category, this year's Costa Rica Cup of Excellence

INTRO
Prodigal's only Costa Rican coffee of 2026: a classically processed natural Geisha that is big and punchy, with ripe stone fruit and candy-like bubblegum and grape flavours. It went to subscribers first in August, and the very limited supply is now available to everyone. In the cup: nectarine, bubblegum, and grape.

THE PRODUCER
Café Solis & Cordero was founded in 2018 by the husband-and-wife team of Ivan Solis and Alejandra Cordero, a new generation of producers blending deep-rooted tradition with forward-thinking practices. Finca Voo came under their management in 2022 and has since won the Cup of Excellence twice, most recently taking #1 in the Experimental category. The same family grew Prodigal's past Finca Copey Geisha.

THE PROCESS
The processing was straightforward. Ripe cherries were washed with clean water before sun-drying on raised beds for 25 days.

The simple, traditional approach of whole-cherry drying on raised beds for 25 days is the defining step. It's what lets the Geisha's ripe stone fruit and candy-like sweetness come through directly.

THE CUP
Big and punchy: ripe nectarine stone fruit leads, with candy-like bubblegum and grape flavours running through.

How it works The whole coffee cherry is dried with the fruit intact, often on raised beds or patios. The dried fruit is removed afterwards.

Typical influence Natural coffees are often described as sweet and full-bodied, with ripe berry or tropical-fruit flavours and sometimes a gentle wine-like note.

About this variety

Coffees reported as Gesha or Geisha are often prized for a delicate, tea-like cup with lifted floral aromas and bright fruit. Jasmine, bergamot and peach are common reference points, but each lot can express them differently.

Why this one is different
  • Costa Rica
  • Dota
  • Natural

In Costa Rica, the name usually describes an introduced planting. Farm traceability and this lot’s tasting notes matter more than assuming it will match a Panamanian cup.

Natural processing often brings a rounder, fruit-led expression, which can make the same variety feel quite different from a washed lot.

Why the Gesha / Geisha name matters

Gesha and Geisha are interchangeable spellings, not proof of different varieties. The best-documented Panamanian Geisha descends from Ethiopian material recorded as T2722, while other coffees carrying either spelling may not be genetically identical.

Classification Reported Gesha / Geisha

Technical lineage The reported name alone does not establish one genetic lineage. Confirmed Panamanian T2722 traces to Ethiopian landrace material.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
