INTRO Another SL9 from Chavez Estate — and an interesting look at just how much range the same varietal can express from the same farm. Where Lot #2 leaned in one direction, Lot #1 tells a different story: a complex citrus character reminiscent of yuzu opens the cup, unfolding into bright, sparkling green grape, with yellow florals and honeydew sweetness emerging as it cools. In the cup: yuzu, green grape, honeysuckle, and honeydew.

THE PRODUCER Chavez Estate is a family-run operation growing multiple varietals, with two appearances in the Peru Cup of Excellence. Ricardo and Virginia oversee all operations alongside their children Raquel, Jhenrri, and Richard. Jhenrri leads quality control and agricultural innovation, knowledge he built while working with the Inkawasi Cooperative. Together, the family manages several interconnected plots, including four separate SL9 lots — this one, Lot #1.

THE PROCESS Lot #1's cherries are first de-pulped, then fermented for 10 days before being washed and dried.

The extended 10-day fermentation is the defining step — a notably long window that builds the complex, layered citrus and floral character behind the yuzu, green grape, and honeydew notes that define this cup.

THE CUP Delicate and expressive — a complex yuzu-like citrus character opens the cup, unfolding into bright, sparkling green grape. As it cools, distinct yellow florals emerge alongside the gentle, mouthwatering sweetness and rounded acidity of honeydew. Each layer reveals itself gradually rather than arriving all at once.
