INTRO The first release from the vaunted Juan Peña this year, and a great start to La Papaya season. This vintage moves from the classic Mejorado marshmallow sweetness into a more floral-centred honeysuckle, with a notably intense, limey citric character and a pungent florality on the finish. In the cup: limeade, honeysuckle, and lilac.

THE PRODUCER This lot comes from Juan Peña's Hacienda La Papaya in Saraguro, Ecuador, sourced through exporting partner CafExporto. Year over year, this staple harvest continues to evolve — both in green attributes and roasting profile — and this release ticks a touch lighter than last year's expression.

THE PROCESS This lot is Washed, a method that removes the fruit before fermentation and drying — allowing Typica Mejorado's naturally sweet, floral character to come through, building the sticky marshmallow sweetness and limey citric brightness that define this cup.

THE CUP Bright and floral — a very bright lemon/lime citric character up top dissolves into typical honeyed, marshmallow sweetness and heavy florality in the finish. A very nice, classic expression of washed Typica Mejorado.
