From Basha Bekele's original processing site near the well-known village of Bombe — fruity and floral, with cherry sweetness meeting a dark chocolate depth and a violet aromatic. In the cup: cherry, dark chocolate, and violet.
THE PRODUCER
Basha Bekele runs four small coffee processing sites in the area around Bensa, close to several other producers on the menu. This lot comes from Basha's original site near Bombe, where some of his partner farmers work at over 2,300 masl. Basha also operates collection points in Shantawene and Kokose, and added a new site in Badigalo this year, at even higher altitude — meaning he now works with around 150 other farmers, exporting their coffee directly to roasters. Basha's family has been in coffee for many years; his father is well respected in Bombe, having previously managed the local co-op there.
THE PROCESS
This lot is a Natural — cherries are dried whole, allowing the fruit to impart its character directly into the bean. This approach is what builds the fruity cherry sweetness and dark chocolate depth that define this cup, with violet aromatics rounding things out.
THE CUP
Fruity and floral — cherry sweetness leads, with a dark chocolate depth through the middle and a violet aromatic on the finish.
