INTRO
Apollon's Gold's second acquisition from Kianyangi since 2018 — and, without question, the finest Kenyan coffee they have showcased since 2017. A masterclass in balance: succulent juiciness, a rich and velvety body, and a profile that is simultaneously vibrant and deeply satisfying. In the cup: orange, blackcurrant, and rambutan.
THE PRODUCER
Kianyangi is a washing station operated by the Murue Cooperative in Kenya — a high-altitude growing environment where the combination of SL28 and SL34, two of Kenya's most celebrated and historically significant varieties, and meticulous washed processing produces the kind of structured, juicy, and layered cup that has made Kenyan coffee so internationally revered. SL28 and SL34 were selected by Scott Agricultural Laboratories in the 1930s for their quality potential and adaptability to Kenya's diverse growing conditions — responsible for the bold acidity, full body, and complex fruit character that define the country's finest lots.
THE PROCESS
The Washed process at Kianyangi involves:
🍒 Hand-picking — SL28 and SL34 cherries selectively harvested at peak ripeness 🔧 Pulping — Outer skin removed before fermentation 🧪 Fermentation — Beans fermented to break down remaining mucilage 💧 Washing & soaking — Thoroughly washed and soaked in clean water — the classic Kenyan step that builds brightness and clarity ☀️ Raised-bed drying — Dried on raised beds to optimal moisture content
The post-wash soaking is the defining step — a traditional and distinctive feature of the Kenyan fully washed process that produces the exceptional brightness, succulent juiciness, and clean citric clarity that make this lot such a masterclass in balance and structure.
THE CUP
Apollon's Gold's finest Kenyan since 2017 — orange brightness, blackcurrant depth, and a rambutan tropical sweetness in a succulent, richly bodied, and beautifully balanced washed Kenyan that demonstrates exactly why this origin continues to inspire such devotion.
