INTRO
Vista Alegre is a farm of remarkable beauty, situated alongside an enormous nature reserve in the San Fernando Valley. Its proximity to that reserve shapes everything — a cool, stable microclimate, outstanding soil health, and growing conditions that push the SL9* variety to extraordinary heights. In the cup we find florals, prickly pear, and lychee.
THE PRODUCER
Genezard Perez farms at an altitude of 2,200 MASL — exceptional even by Peruvian standards — in the Amaybamba area of the San Fernando Valley. The farm's position bordering a nature reserve is not incidental: the reserve acts as a natural buffer, maintaining the cool temperatures and biodiversity that contribute directly to the complexity and expression of the coffee grown here.
The SL9* variety, known colloquially in Peru as "Gesha Inca," has been genetically identified as closely resembling SL09 — a rare cultivar within the Ethiopian Legacy group. While its exact genetic fingerprint is not yet in the global database, its cup quality potential is unmistakable, and Vista Alegre is one of the finest expressions SEY have encountered from this variety.
THE PROCESS
The Washed process at Vista Alegre involves:
- 🍒 Selective Harvest — Hand-picked at peak ripeness
- 📅 In-Cherry Rest — Held in cherry for 24 hours
- 💧 Float & Sort — Floated to further remove defects
- 🔧 Depulping — De-pulped after floating
- 🧪 Dry Fermentation — Fermented dry for 36 hours
- ☀️ Raised Bed Drying — Dried on raised beds for 20 days until moisture content reaches approximately 10%
The extended in-cherry rest and careful raised-bed drying allow the SL9* variety's intrinsic floral and fruit character to develop fully, whilst the clean washed finish preserves the clarity and precision that define this coffee.
THE CUP
A delicate, aromatic, and elegantly structured cup from one of Peru's highest-altitude growing sites. The combination of the SL9* variety, the nature reserve microclimate, and meticulous processing makes Vista Alegre a singular expression of what this corner of Peru is capable of.
