The Gatuya Coffee Factory is one of two washing stations managed by the New Murarandia Farmers Cooperative Society, which brings together around 3,500 smallholder producers in the Murang’a region of Kenya.
Each member typically cultivates between 0.2 to 0.3 hectares of land, growing coffee alongside other crops. The farmers deliver freshly picked cherries to the Gatuya factory, where they undergo careful hand-sorting, pulping, and fermentation, followed by a thorough washing and slow drying on raised beds under the Kenyan sun.
The high elevation, fertile volcanic soil, and traditional SL cultivars contribute to the coffee’s vibrant acidity and structured sweetness, resulting in a cup that’s juicy, tea-like, and bursting with fruit.
Expect a classic Kenyan profile — layers of blackcurrant and plum with a refreshing black tea finish and a long, complex aftertaste.
