INTRO Some coffees surprise from the very first sip — Gesha Village's Surma Semi Anaerobic 26/E22 is one of them. Grown in the Ethiopian highlands, it reveals a luminous cup where exotic fruit meets elegant acidity. Generous, sweet, and tropical pineapple notes lead, with juicy lemon and a delicate red fruit finish. In the cup: pineapple, lemon, and red fruits.

THE PRODUCER This lot comes from Gesha Village, a farm renowned for its exacting approach to coffee cultivation and meticulous work with Gesha varieties. The Surma plot, tied to lot 26/E22, benefits from high-altitude terroir that favours slow cherry maturation and rich aromatic complexity.

THE PROCESS The Semi Anaerobic method controls part of the fermentation in a low-oxygen environment. This technique highlights the coffee's natural potential without masking its identity, adding depth, a silkier texture, and a clear fruity expression.

The controlled, low-oxygen fermentation stage is the defining step — it's what builds the generous pineapple sweetness and juicy lemon brightness that define this cup, while preserving a delicate red fruit finish.

THE CUP Fresh, elegant, and expressive — generous, sweet, and tropical pineapple notes lead, with juicy lemon acidity and a delicate red fruit finish. High acidity and a silky body round out this light-roast filter coffee.

How it works The coffee ferments in a closed, oxygen-limited vessel, either as a whole cherry or after pulping. Anaerobic describes the atmosphere, not one fixed recipe.

Typical influence These coffees are often described as rich and aromatic, with fruit, spice, layered sweetness or a fuller texture. Results can range from clean to distinctly funky.

About this variety

Coffees reported as Gesha or Geisha are often prized for a delicate, tea-like cup with lifted floral aromas and bright fruit. Jasmine, bergamot and peach are common reference points, but each lot can express them differently.

Why this one is different
  • Ethiopia
  • Boquete
  • Anaerobic

In Ethiopia, Gesha can refer to landrace material associated with the wider Gesha area. It should not automatically be treated as Panama’s T2722 selection.

Anaerobic describes an oxygen-limited environment, not one fixed recipe or flavour. This coffee’s own tasting notes are more useful than a general variety stereotype.

Why the Gesha / Geisha name matters

Gesha and Geisha are interchangeable spellings, not proof of different varieties. The best-documented Panamanian Geisha descends from Ethiopian material recorded as T2722, while other coffees carrying either spelling may not be genetically identical.

Classification Reported Gesha / Geisha

Technical lineage The reported name alone does not establish one genetic lineage. Confirmed Panamanian T2722 traces to Ethiopian landrace material.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
