Blueberry-forward, clean, well-fruited, and aromatic, this G1-graded lot traces back to just one farm in West Arsi. In the cup: blueberry, lemon, and grape.
THE PRODUCER
Nensebo is a woreda in the West Arsi zone of Oromia, Ethiopia — a region with a long and celebrated history of coffee production, known for the quality and aromatic complexity of its naturally processed lots. This G1 lot traces back to a single farm in the area, representing a new direct relationship for Prodigal and a level of traceability that sets it apart from station-level lots. Ethiopia's extraordinary biodiversity — with DNA testing confirming over 60 distinct varieties — means that most coffees from the country are blends of many co-existing heirloom varieties, all contributing to the layered complexity and vibrancy that define Ethiopian specialty coffee at its finest.
THE PROCESS
The Natural process at Nensebo involves:
🍒 Hand-picking — Ripe cherries selectively harvested at peak ripeness ☀️ Raised-bed drying — Whole cherries dried on raised beds for approximately 2 weeks 🏭 Machine sorting — Milled and sorted by machine after drying 🔍 Hand sorting — Further sorted by hand to ensure only the finest beans reach the G1 grade
The raised-bed drying is the defining step — the beans rest inside the intact cherry throughout, slowly absorbing the fruit's sugars and developing the blueberry and grape sweetness and the bright lemon acidity that define this lot. The dual machine and hand sorting after drying is what earns this the G1 designation — the highest quality grade in the Ethiopian coffee system.
THE CUP
A clean, vibrant, and beautifully aromatic natural Ethiopian espresso from a single farm in West Arsi — blueberry-forward with a bright lemon acidity and a ripe grape sweetness, delivering exceptional straight shots and Americanos that showcase the full character of this compelling new origin relationship.
