DETAILS

  • Producer: Hachi Panama
  • Region: Panama
  • Varietal: Gesha
  • Process: Natural
  • Release: Top Shelf, #05

INTRO A top-shelf release from Hachi Panama — "Akane" (茜, deep red), a candy-bright Gesha from one of Panama's most acclaimed Gesha producers. Creamy blueberry yogurt sweetness leads, with a blackcurrant depth and a tangy Sweetarts-like brightness. In the cup: blueberry yogurt, blackcurrant, and Sweetarts.

THE PRODUCER Hachi Panama has built a reputation as one of the country's most sought-after Gesha producers, known for meticulous, small-batch natural processing that consistently draws attention from top roasters and collectors worldwide. Top Shelf releases like this one represent some of the most exacting, limited-quantity work coming out of the operation.

THE PROCESS This lot is a Natural — cherries are dried whole, allowing the fruit to impart its character directly into the bean as it dries. This approach is what builds the creamy blueberry yogurt sweetness and tangy candy-like brightness that define this cup.

THE CUP Creamy and candy-bright — blueberry yogurt sweetness up front, blackcurrant depth through the middle, and a tangy Sweetarts finish. A top-shelf expression of Hachi's exacting Gesha work.

Coffee Variety

In this coffee

About this variety

Coffees reported as Gesha or Geisha are often prized for a delicate, tea-like cup with lifted floral aromas and bright fruit. Jasmine, bergamot and peach are common reference points, but each lot can express them differently.

Why this one is different
  • Panama
  • Panama
  • Natural

Panamanian Geisha, especially well-traced T2722 grown at high altitude, is the classic reference for a very delicate, jasmine-led and peach-like cup.

Natural processing often brings a rounder, fruit-led expression, which can make the same variety feel quite different from a washed lot.

Why the Gesha / Geisha name matters

Gesha and Geisha are interchangeable spellings, not proof of different varieties. The best-documented Panamanian Geisha descends from Ethiopian material recorded as T2722, while other coffees carrying either spelling may not be genetically identical.

Classification Reported Gesha / Geisha

Technical lineage The reported name alone does not establish one genetic lineage. Confirmed Panamanian T2722 traces to Ethiopian landrace material.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
