INTRO

We're excited to share another incredible coffee from Peru, this time from El Mirador, the farm behind Peru's #1 Cup of Excellence coffee in 2023. This lot is another example of the nuanced and expressive profiles we've been finding throughout the country.

THE PRODUCER

El Mirador was first owned by close relatives of Yoniser Mego Silva. Originally, the small plot of land was used to grow coffee and raise cattle. When Yoniser's parents took over the farm in 2000, the family started expanding the coffee growing area to include catimor and caturra. In 2020, they planted their first gesha trees. In 2023, El Mirador placed first in the Peru Cup of Excellence.

THE PROCESS

The Anaerobic Washed process at El Mirador involves:

  • 🍒 Cherry Selection — Careful picking at peak ripeness

  • 🔒 Anaerobic Fermentation — 25–30 hours in a sealed, oxygen-restricted environment

  • 🚿 Washing — Thorough washing following fermentation

  • ☀️ Drying — 15–18 days

This extended anaerobic fermentation followed by careful drying creates the deep complexity and elegant florals that define this award-winning Gesha lot.

THE CUP

The coffee is immediately aromatic, with a distinct cherry blossom fragrance that comes through as soon as the beans are ground. In the cup, a clear white peach sweetness forms the centre of the profile, surrounded by layers of stonefruits and delicate florals. As the coffee develops, the creamy floral character becomes increasingly reminiscent of Iron Goddess tea, adding a soft, elegant quality alongside the fruit—a deep complexity that continues to reveal itself as it cools.
