INTRO

From Arley Vargas and his father Alexander at Finca La Piragua — an extraordinarily accessible entry point into the world of beautiful washed Colombian Geisha. Immense quality, layers of flavour, and the kind of perfumed florality that could easily pass for a far more exclusive lot. If you've been wanting to wade into the world of washed Geisha, this is the one to begin with. In the cup: a wave of pink peony florals, ripe orange cantaloupe juiciness, and stable blood orange acidity throughout.

THE PRODUCER

Arley Vargas is a second-generation coffee producer who works alongside his father Alexander on their shared 18-hectare farm in Huila at 1,800 MASL. Finca La Piragua is operated entirely under regenerative farming practices — including the active reforestation of previously deforested parts of the farm, reflecting a commitment to the long-term health of the land as much as the quality of the coffee it produces. The farm's debut on Mirra Coffee's menu is a stunning introduction to what Arley and Alexander are building together.

Geisha, first identified in the 1930s in the forests of Gori Gesha in Ethiopia, first attracted global attention in 2005 when the Peterson family at Hacienda La Esmeralda in Boquete, Panama entered a lot into the Best of Panama competition and won — launching a variety that has since become the most lauded in commercial cultivation. In Huila's cool, high-altitude microclimate at 1,800 MASL, its hallmark perfumed florality and delicate complexity find ideal conditions to express themselves with full precision and elegance.

THE CUP

A stunning and beautifully accessible washed Geisha from one of Huila's most promising young family farms — a wave of perfumed pink peony florals, ripe and juicy orange cantaloupe sweetness, and a stable blood orange acidity that runs clean and bright from first sip to last. Immense quality at a genuinely accessible price.

About this variety

Coffees reported as Gesha or Geisha are often prized for a delicate, tea-like cup with lifted floral aromas and bright fruit. Jasmine, bergamot and peach are common reference points, but each lot can express them differently.

Why this one is different
  • Colombia
  • Huila
  • 1800 masl
  • Washed

This is a Colombian expression, so it should not be expected to match a Panamanian Geisha exactly. The farm, growing conditions and lot notes matter more than the spelling.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

Why the Gesha / Geisha name matters

Gesha and Geisha are interchangeable spellings, not proof of different varieties. The best-documented Panamanian Geisha and a Colombian research sample have matched T2722, but country and spelling do not prove that every farm planting is identical.

Classification Reported Gesha / Geisha

Technical lineage The reported name alone does not establish one genetic lineage. Confirmed Panamanian T2722 traces to Ethiopian landrace material.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
