A limited release from Felipe Arcila at Jardines del Eden in Quindío — a rare and fascinating washed Papayo of exceptional transparency and clean tropical depth. Roasted on the lighter end of ultralight, this is a coffee that rewards patience: rest 45+ days and the juicy tropical fruits and spiced florals fully reveal themselves in a cup that is both uniquely characterful and extraordinarily clean. In the cup: mango, green grape, and cardamom.

THE PRODUCER

Felipe Arcila is one of Colombia's most celebrated and internationally recognised specialty producers — the founder of CafExporto and a key figure in the development of Ecuador's Hacienda La Papaya, as well as a deeply respected producer in his own right across multiple Colombian farms. Jardines del Eden is situated in Quindío, part of the Eje Cafetero — Colombia's most established coffee-growing region — where fertile soils, reliable rainfall, and a distinct mountain microclimate provide the foundation for the kind of clean, transparently expressive lots that Felipe consistently produces.

Papayo is a variety named for the elongated papaya-like shape of its cherry — closely related to Ethiopian heirloom genetics and prized for its distinctive aromatic potential and the tropical and floral complexity it delivers when cultivated and processed with care. It is one of the rarest and most sought-after Colombian varietals in the specialty market today.

THE PROCESS

The Washed process at Jardines del Eden involves:

🍒 Hand-picking — Papayo cherries selectively harvested at peak ripeness 🔧 Depulping — Outer skin removed before fermentation 🧪 Fermentation — Beans fermented to break down remaining mucilage 💧 Washing — Thoroughly washed to remove all fermentation residue ☀️ Drying — Dried to optimal moisture content, preserving the transparency and clean aromatic structure of the Papayo
