INTRO
Sweet and rich, from a farm that produces some of the world's best coffee, known for exceptional quality and unique terroir. This harvest is particularly special, as it marks a decade since Coffee Collective first started buying directly from Mariana. In the cup: heather honey, raspberry jam, and pear.

THE PRODUCER
Takesi, led by Mariana Iturralde, produces some of the world's best coffee. Over ten years, the relationship with Coffee Collective has grown into a strong partnership, and they are proud of what it has built. They chose to pay 33 USD/kg for this lot, based on the quality of the coffee.

Catuaí is a cross of Yellow Caturra and Mundo Novo, bred in Brazil, and known for good quality potential at high altitude. This lot combines the Red and Yellow types.

THE PROCESS
This lot is Washed, a method that removes the fruit before fermentation and drying. It lets the sweetness and clarity of the high-altitude Catuaí come through. The sheet doesn't give further steps.

THE CUP
Sweet and rich: heather honey leads, with raspberry jam fruit and a pear finish.

About this variety

Catuaí is usually an approachable, balanced variety rather than an extreme one. Expect gentle fruit, sweetness and a rounded finish, with the origin and process doing much of the detailed flavour work.

Why this one is different
  • Bolivia
  • Yanacachi
  • 1940-2300 masl
  • Washed

This Catuaí is from Bolivia, where local selections, farming conditions and processing shape its final character.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

A little background

Catuaí is a compact cultivar developed in Brazil by crossing productive Mundo Novo with compact Caturra. Red and yellow fruiting selections are grown in Brazil and parts of Central America.

Classification Brazilian cultivar

Technical lineage Mundo Novo × Caturra.
