  • Process: Washed
  • Elevation: 1,500–1,700 masl

INTRO From Hacienda La Esmeralda's Jaramillo farm — the Private Collection washed lot, showcasing the estate's classic clarity and precision. White floral aromatics lead, with citrus brightness, berry sweetness, and an apricot finish. In the cup: white flowers, citrus, berries, and apricot.

THE PRODUCER Hacienda La Esmeralda needs little introduction. In 2004, the Peterson family won the Best of Panama competition with an exceptional Gesha — a variety previously unknown in the region — and in doing so reshaped the trajectory of specialty coffee entirely. The estate remains one of the most renowned in the world, with the Jaramillo farm representing a distinct part of its broader portfolio.

THE PROCESS This lot is Washed, a method that removes the fruit before fermentation and drying — allowing Gesha's naturally floral, delicate character to come through with clarity, building the white floral and citrus brightness that define this cup.

THE CUP Clean and floral — white floral aromatics lead, citrus brightness and berry sweetness through the middle, finishing on an apricot note. A precise, classic expression from one of Panama's most storied estates.

About this variety

Coffees reported as Gesha or Geisha are often prized for a delicate, tea-like cup with lifted floral aromas and bright fruit. Jasmine, bergamot and peach are common reference points, but each lot can express them differently.

Why this one is different
  • Panama
  • Boquete
  • 1500-1700 masl
  • Washed

Panamanian Geisha, especially well-traced T2722 grown at high altitude, is the classic reference for a very delicate, jasmine-led and peach-like cup.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

Why the Gesha / Geisha name matters

Gesha and Geisha are interchangeable spellings, not proof of different varieties. The best-documented Panamanian Geisha descends from Ethiopian material recorded as T2722, while other coffees carrying either spelling may not be genetically identical.

Classification Reported Gesha / Geisha

Technical lineage The reported name alone does not establish one genetic lineage. Confirmed Panamanian T2722 traces to Ethiopian landrace material.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
