This is September's third year working with the Karimikui AA lot, and it’s one of our favorite expressions yet. A field blend of iconic Kenyan varietals, this coffee delivers a vibrant, juicy, and intensely sweet cup, with black currant and sweet citrus notes shining through.

In the cup, expect juicy red currants, tart berries, and a raw sugar-like sweetness, layered with delicate florals and a bright, memorable acidity.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

The Karimikui Factory is located in a high-altitude region of Kirinyaga where tea is more commonly grown than coffee. Part of the Rungeto FCS Cooperative, the factory receives ripe cherries from hundreds of smallholders each year. Cherries are carefully hand-sorted, and the factory’s meticulous processing methods, combined with nutrient-rich soil, produce consistently high-performing coffees with remarkable sweetness and clarity.

PROCESSING

Processing

  • Cherry Selection: Ripe cherries are hand-picked, de-pulped, and graded

  • Dry Fermentation: Cherries ferment in tanks to develop initial flavors

  • Washing: Coffee washed in clean channels, followed by a second soak to fully develop flavor

  • Drying: Placed on raised beds, covered with plastic during the hottest hours and overnight

  • Rotation: Coffees are periodically turned to ensure even drying

A sweet, vibrant, and structured Kenyan coffee, showcasing the precision and care of Karimikui Factory’s team. Perfect for filter or espresso.

What is the roast recency?

September doesn't generally advertise a roast preference to Filter or Espresso, however, this is an exception and this particular bag is best enjoyed as espresso!

We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 8-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
