DETAILS

  • Varietal: Gesha
  • Process: Washed (anaerobic fermentation, 2 days)
  • Altitude: 1,800 masl
  • Harvest: April 2026

INTRO
A washed Gesha from Tierra Blanca, founded on the slopes of Volcán Barú. In the cup: floral blueberry, nectarine, orange, and green tea.

THE PRODUCER
Tierra Blanca was founded in 2017 by Kyle Snider and Larry Kolek on the slopes of Volcán Barú. Today they operate six farms across Panama, growing coffee through sustainable farming practices. In 2024 the project made its Best of Panama debut and finished fifth in the Washed Geisha category.

THE PROCESS
The washed Gesha was fermented anaerobically in tanks for two days, then dried on raised beds until the moisture content reached 18%. It was then moved to a drying room for a further 20 days before being rested in storage.

The two-day anaerobic tank ferment followed by a 20-day drying-room finish is the defining combination. It gives the cup its floral blueberry brightness alongside clean stone fruit and citrus.

THE CUP
Floral and bright: floral blueberry leads, with nectarine and orange through the middle and a green tea finish.

How it works The fruit is removed from the coffee seed. Water and fermentation then help clear away the sticky layer before the seed is dried.

Typical influence Washed coffees are often described as clean and bright, with clear flavours, lively acidity and a crisp finish.

About this variety

Coffees reported as Gesha or Geisha are often prized for a delicate, tea-like cup with lifted floral aromas and bright fruit. Jasmine, bergamot and peach are common reference points, but each lot can express them differently.

Why this one is different
  • Panama
  • Volcán Barú
  • 1800 masl
  • Washed

Panamanian Geisha, especially well-traced T2722 grown at high altitude, is the classic reference for a very delicate, jasmine-led and peach-like cup.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

Why the Gesha / Geisha name matters

Gesha and Geisha are interchangeable spellings, not proof of different varieties. The best-documented Panamanian Geisha descends from Ethiopian material recorded as T2722, while other coffees carrying either spelling may not be genetically identical.

Classification Reported Gesha / Geisha

Technical lineage The reported name alone does not establish one genetic lineage. Confirmed Panamanian T2722 traces to Ethiopian landrace material.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
