INTRO This Janson Geisha Natural, lot 115, from the renowned Hacienda Janson, reveals an elegant, refined profile. Hacienda sits in the Tizingal region of Chiriquí, Panama — a high-altitude terroir with an ideal climate for growing Geisha. A soft, subtle profile: delicate on the attack, with round, sweet pink guava notes, followed by fresher, more acidic white currant and lemon zest. In the cup: pink guava, white currant, and lemon zest.

THE PRODUCER Founded in 1926 by Carl Axel Janson, a Swedish immigrant captivated by the volcanic landscapes of Chiriquí, Janson Coffee is today an essential name in Panamanian specialty coffee. Set on the fertile slopes of Volcán Barú, the farm has evolved from a small agricultural operation into a family enterprise of excellence, now led by the third generation. It cultivates prestigious varieties like Geisha, Pacamara, Caturra, and Catuaí under a sustainable vision that places quality and environment at the heart of every step — traceable microlots, solar panels, reforestation, natural soil enrichment, and careful water management. Beyond the coffee, Janson also runs social, educational, and medical initiatives supporting the wellbeing of its teams.

THE PROCESS This lot is a Natural with 72 hours of fermentation, developing an intense aromatic expression while retaining real finesse.

The 72-hour fermentation is the defining step — it's what builds the round, sweet pink guava character up front, while preserving the fresher, more acidic white currant and lemon zest notes that follow.

THE CUP Soft and subtle — a delicate attack opens with round, sweet pink guava, followed by fresher, more acidic notes of white currant and lemon zest. The acidity is lively but perfectly balanced, with a silky body throughout.

About this variety

Coffees reported as Gesha or Geisha are often prized for a delicate, tea-like cup with lifted floral aromas and bright fruit. Jasmine, bergamot and peach are common reference points, but each lot can express them differently.

Why this one is different
  • Panama
  • Chiriquí
  • Natural

Panamanian Geisha, especially well-traced T2722 grown at high altitude, is the classic reference for a very delicate, jasmine-led and peach-like cup.

Natural processing often brings a rounder, fruit-led expression, which can make the same variety feel quite different from a washed lot.

Why the Gesha / Geisha name matters

Gesha and Geisha are interchangeable spellings, not proof of different varieties. The best-documented Panamanian Geisha descends from Ethiopian material recorded as T2722, while other coffees carrying either spelling may not be genetically identical.

Classification Reported Gesha / Geisha

Technical lineage The reported name alone does not establish one genetic lineage. Confirmed Panamanian T2722 traces to Ethiopian landrace material.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
