Intro:
Swerl is excited to present Los Magníficos Geisha, a beautifully vibrant washed Geisha coffee from San Agustín in Huila, Colombia. Sourced from a group of dedicated smallholder producers working together as the Monkaaba group, this lot showcases the clean clarity and expressive floral‑fruit interplay that Geisha is celebrated for — perfectly suited to thoughtful filter brewing.
The Producer:
Los Magníficos brings together cherries from several growers across San Agustín — a high‑elevation coffee region in southern Huila. Members of the Monkaaba group, including Orlando Quinayas, Diana Quinayas, Jose Omar Muñoz, Rovira Salamanca, and Stiven Hoyos, collaborate on picking, processing, and quality control. By combining microlots that might otherwise be too small to export alone, this initiative highlights collective excellence and shared craftsmanship among small farms.
The Process:
This lot uses a washed processing method, where ripe cherries are depulped soon after harvest and then fermented to remove mucilage before thorough washing and drying on raised beds. The washed process emphasizes clarity and purity of flavour, allowing the delicate aromatic profile of the Geisha varietal to shine with both fruity brightness and floral nuance.
The Cup:
In the cup, Los Magníficos Geisha delivers a refined and layered filter coffee experience. Rose 🌹 florals and jasmine 🌼 aromatics provide a delicate aromatic frame, while raspberry 🍇 sweetness and peach 🍑 notes add juicy fruit richness and balance. Together these elements produce a clean, fragrant, and expressive cup that’s both vibrant and elegant.
Overall:
Swerl’s Los Magníficos Gesha is a standout - a washed expression that marries floral grace with fruit‑forward clarity. It reflects both the collaborative spirit of the Monkaaba growers and Swerl’s commitment to showcasing distinctive, seasonal coffees with precision and care. Ideal for filter brewing, this coffee rewards attention and slow sipping with a balanced, fragrant, and joyful profile.
What is the roast recency?
We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 8-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
