INTRO

This is SEY's second year purchasing coffee from Marlene Rojas. She produced one of their favourite Geshas from Peru last season, and they are excited to have her coffee again this year. Grown at extraordinary altitude in Inkawasi, Cusco, this lot is as expressive as it is refined. In the cup: ripe peach, white florals, and fresh blueberries.

THE PRODUCER

Marlene Rojas farms in Inkawasi, a remote corner of the Cusco region renowned for its extreme altitudes and exceptional cup quality. Last year, SEY spent significant time exploring southern Peru and were consistently blown away by what they found — the unique varieties, the terroir, and the dedication of producers like Marlene. Her coffee was among the first they tasted from the region and played a key role in their desire to explore it further.

Farming at over 2,000 MASL, Marlene works in conditions that are physically demanding but uniquely suited to producing Gesha of remarkable complexity. Her meticulous approach to harvesting and processing is evident in every cup — an inspiring producer at the forefront of what's possible in Peruvian specialty coffee.

THE PROCESS

The Washed process at El Nevado involves:

  • 🍒 Hand-picking — Cherries selected at peak ripeness
  • 💧 Floating — Further defect removal before pulping
  • 🔧 De-pulping — Skin removed on the day of harvest
  • 🧪 Dry fermentation — Fermented for 30 hours
  • ☀️ Raised-bed drying — Dried until moisture content stabilises

The combination of extreme altitude, Gesha's innate floral character, and the precision of the washed process results in a cup of exceptional clarity and aromatic intensity.

THE CUP

A stunning high-altitude Gesha from one of Peru's most exciting emerging producers — luminously clean and intensely aromatic, with Marlene Rojas's signature delicacy and depth on full display.
