Intro:

September is pleased to present Chelbesa One Washed Landrace, a beautifully clean and vibrant Ethiopian coffee from the lush highlands of Gedeb Zone, Yirgacheffe. This washed lot celebrates the clarity and delicacy that arise when traditional Ethiopian landrace varieties are processed with care — offering a bright, floral, and refreshing filter cup that highlights the essence of its terroir.

The Producer:

This lot is sourced from approximately 1,000 smallholder farmers across the Gedeb Zone, whose cherries are brought to the Chelbesa One washing station. These growers tend coffee on high‑altitude plots where cool conditions promote slow cherry ripening and flavour development. The combined efforts of these producers help form a lot that truly reflects both community collaboration and Ethiopian cultivated diversity.

The Process:

Once ripe cherries arrive at the Chelbesa One washing station, they are floated in water to remove floaters before being depulped. The beans then undergo a brief dry fermentation in tanks for 2–3 days, which gently enhances sweetness and complexity. After fermentation, the parchment is washed and dried on raised beds — frequently moved to ensure even drying over roughly 7–10 days. This method yields a transparent, lively cup with clear fruit and floral expression.

The Cup:

In the cup, Chelbesa One Washed Landrace delivers a sparkling, juicy profile. Expect juicy peach 🍑 sweetness balanced with delicate lavender 🌼 aromatics, all framed by lively tangerine 🍊 acidity. The body is light and clean, with a vibrant finish that lingers pleasantly — a textbook washed Ethiopian experience that’s bright, floral, and nuanced.

Overall:

September’s Chelbesa One Washed Landrace is a superb example of washed Ethiopian specialty coffee — clear, bright, and delightfully expressive. With its fruit‑forward sweetness, elegant florals, and refreshing citrus lift, this lot offers a refined filter brew that encapsulates the character and beauty of Gedeb’s coffee heritage.

What is the roast recency?

September doesn't generally advertise a roast preference to Filter or Espresso, however, this is an exception and this particular bag is best enjoyed as espresso!

We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 8-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
