INTRO

A debut release from Finca Clara Luz — one of Mirra Coffee's absolute favourite farms in Ecuador, and the beginning of a relationship they expect to be a long and generous one. Juicy, round, and deeply tropical, with a delicacy and florality that makes every sip feel like a discovery. In the cup: papaya sweetness, fresh orange blossom, and bright green kiwi acidity — a truly legendary coffee.

THE PRODUCER

Finca Clara Luz has a history stretching back to 1920, when the Cueva family first established the farm near the town of Las Ardas in Loja. The Gonzalez family became tenants of the property in 1955, farming Typica for commercial and domestic consumption for nearly six decades before making a transformative decision in 2014 — replacing their Typica plots with Sidra, Yellow Bourbon, Batian, and Geisha, committing to a new chapter in specialty coffee production.

Sidra's genetic heritage remains a subject of ongoing inquiry, with two dominant theories: that it originated from a Nestlé research facility in Ecuador as a cross of Typica and Bourbon, or that it is a naturally occurring mutation of Ethiopian Landrace — an origin theory supported by demonstrable genetic similarities when tested in a laboratory setting. Mirra endorse the latter, placing Sidra alongside Chiroso, Geisha, Mejorado, Papayo, Pink Bourbon, Aji, and Wush Wush as yet another example of an Ethiopian Landrace variety that found its way to South America. Commercially farmed only since 2012, it has since become one of the most celebrated and sought-after varieties in specialty coffee — and at 1,720 MASL in Loja, Finca Clara Luz is producing one of its finest expressions.

THE CUP

A legendary washed Sidra from one of Ecuador's most exciting family farms — juicy papaya sweetness, delicate orange blossom florality, and a bright green kiwi acidity in a round, tropical, and deeply expressive cup that announces Finca Clara Luz as a name to watch closely.
