INTRO

Las Margaritas [Geisha Washed] is a micro-lot of exemplary clarity from Café Granja La Esperanza. Rigoberto Herrera's meticulous washed process produces a cup of outstanding elegance — jasmine florals and white tea delicacy on the attack, a silky body carrying the gentle sweetness of peach, and a clean, bright citrus acidity that brings the whole experience to a perfectly balanced conclusion.

THE PRODUCER

Café Granja La Esperanza (cGLE) is a Colombian family estate founded in 1945 by Juan Antonio Herrera and Blanca Ligia Correa. Today led by their descendants Rigoberto and Luis Herrera, it has become a world reference in specialty coffee. Spanning multiple high-altitude farms in the Valle del Cauca — including Potosi, Cerro Azul, La Esperanza, and Las Margaritas — cGLE was a pioneer in introducing the Geisha variety to Colombia.

The estate is renowned for its rigorous craftsmanship, innovative processing methods, and complex aromatic profiles. cGLE has also developed hybrid varieties such as the "Mandela" and runs programmes to strengthen both productivity, resilience, and cup quality across all its farms. Tradition, excellence, and social commitment unite in every cup.

THE PROCESS

The Washed process at Las Margaritas involves:

  • 🍒 Selective Hand Picking — Only fully ripe Geisha cherries are harvested by hand
  • 🔧 Mechanical Pulping — The outer cherry skin is removed to expose the mucilage-coated parchment bean
  • 💧 Fermentation — Beans ferment in water tanks to fully break down and release the mucilage layer
  • 💧 Multi-stage Washing — Thorough washing in graded water channels for exemplary cup clarity
  • ☀️ Raised Bed Drying — Carefully dried on elevated beds to preserve the variety's delicate character

The fully washed process allows the Geisha variety's extraordinary floral and citrus expression to shine with complete clarity and purity.

THE CUP

The quintessential Geisha experience: a clean, elegant filter coffee whose silky body carries vivid jasmine florals, white tea subtlety, the gentle sweetness of peach, and a precise, refreshing citrus acidity. A micro-lot that illustrates the mastery of Granja La Esperanza.
